Latest News From The Rossford Firefighters       

 


We have been inundated with calls about open burning in the City, here is the link to the Ohio Revised Code  (ORC) about Open Burning in Restricted Areas (City of Rossford). For ALL the information please click here.  Please READ the entire code.

January 2011-Crews responded to a well off attached garage fire in a newer subdivision. A full automatic aid response was sent crews operated for about 2 hours. There were no injuries and minor damage to the living quarters to the house. GREAT STOP ! For additional images please click here !


December 2011- The RFRD held their annual Christmas Party and Awards Dinner at the American Legion Post #533. This year there were 6 awards handed out including an almost full department Unit Citation for an extrication. Seen below are Tiffany Ilconich and Lt. Andrew Vascik celebrating 10 years of service (not pictured-Robbie Marciniak). Firefighter of the Year was Britton Alexander ! Congrats to all !


 Late December 2011- Crews answered 4 calls for service in an hour, it has been awhile since this occurred. Thanks to our mutual aid neighbors at Northwood for the assistance !


November 2011- While crews answered 3 calls for service in less than 30 minutes here is T-791 along with the rest of the apparatus responding to a lightning strike at Bass Pro Shops. The store received minor damage and crews were happy to get back to the station and dry off.


November 2011- Crews responded to multi-car MVA on under horrible weather conditions to find a T-bone collision requiring  moderate extrication. All Units responded except for T-791, that did respond to the commercial fire above.
 

November 2011-Crews respond to a single car MVA to find the driver with potentially life threatening injuries.


Congratulations to Caleb Reighard upon successfully becoming a Nationally Registered Paramedic !!!!!!!! WAY TO GO CALEB  !!!

October 2011- The Open House was a HUGE success, thanks to Asst. Chief Lee Adams from the Lockington,  Ohio VFD for the use of the extinguisher simulator, and to Great Lakes Towing and Recovery for their continued support by getting us cars to train on, and provided for the 2011 Open House THANKS Travis ! 


October 2011- Rossford Fire & Rescue again hosted the 36 Hour Volunteer FF Class including the RFRD's newest member Bobby Johnson, click the photo for more pictures.

October 2011- Crews responded on a mutual aid call to assist Northwood crews on a commercial MVA. Upon arrival a tractor trailer had run of the expressway spilling many gallons of diesel fuel. Crews operated for over 2 ½ hours.


October 2011- Crews have had steady work over the past couple of months here is a collection of random photos from various events and incidents over the last month or so, click the picture to see the rest !


August 2011-RFRD crews assisted with the NWOTPA at the Wood County Fairgrounds. Crews manned 1 Medic Unit and 1 Engine Co. This is always a great event and we are glad to be a part of it. For more photos click the "Safety Team" badge below !

 


August 2011-Vrews responded on a mutual aid call for a mid-afternoon truck on fire that was carrying medical gases. Numerous cylinders exploded and landed in a nearby field., the photo below is the view responding from the north @ Oregon Rd. and Caple Blvd. For more pictures of this inferno click here !


August 2011- Before drill ended last Monday crews responded with a full assignment to an overturned vehicle with a person trapped who was also trapped by the vehicle. Crews worked for over 30 minutes to free the patient who was transported to a local trauma center. Northwood #1 also responded on automatic aid and transported 1 patient. August 2011-Crews were dispatched to a possible brush fire only to find 2 mattresses set ablaze in a remote location.
 

Agust 2011-For many years crews have participated in the annual Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center/Owens Community College Residents day. This year T-791 was used to go over fire operations.


August 2011- Within 24  hours of the first inferno crews were sent one block over to find a vacant house with smoke showing. Crews did a great job of preventing it from reaching the attic after an interior attack. Both fires are considered suspicious.


August 2011- Crews were dispatched with a full Auto-Aid assignment to the 200 block of Bacon St. to find a dwelling well off upon arrival. Poor water pressure hampered efforts initially to get the blaze under control.
